THE INTELLIGENT WAY TO TRAIN

Elements to consider in training for an event, competetion or simply a way to get fitter

So, the common approach towards freedive training is, the more time in the water the better.

I would like to use my own experiences and show how to effectively utilise the lead up to competition and how it's not all pool / ocean exposure.

Firstly, how is your fitness?

Tabata style exercises over a 4 week period got my restng heartbeat from 65-70bpm down to 45-50pm. Tabata skipping / burpee pull-ups. Try a spin class!! Finswimming? Great for fitness and technique!

Secondly, how is you strength / conditioning? Are you strong in the muscle groups used for each discipline?

I spent a lot of time working on my core. The type of work I did meant I was super strong in the legs and arms, with nothing holding the two together.

Technique? Do you do drills? Do you get feedback?

CO2 / O2 tolerance.

Static training.

Stretching / Flexibility?

Mindfulness / meditation?

Diet?

Rest!!!!!!!!

Are you still having fun? That is the most important thing...

The biggest difference for me, was finding a great training partner, someone to push you, for you to inspire but most of all, enjoy the training, it should be as stress free as possible.

Some of that may seem obvious but they are all factors you can control, everything else is just life.
